Introduction:
"The home we just bought has a long-neglected pond in the garden. It's overgrown with weeds, has a slow leak, and even smells bad. We hope to restore it, but need lots of advice. We're hoping we can get it at this club's meetings."
Would you like to get some goldfish or aquatic plants from Suzanne and Peter for your own pond? Do you have any fish or plants you'd like to offer to other members?
"There are a few hardy goldfish struggling to survive in the pond. They must have a strong constitution to still be alive in such an unhealthy environment. We'll keep them as the basis of our breeding stock. We need no fish, but can use some plants."
How did you learn about our Geneva Area Pond Club? Please specify the web site or bulletin board location or person from whom you learned about us. Will you tell any friends interested in ponds about us too? Membership and meetings are all free.
"We searched on Google.com for any reference to ponds around Geneva. There are an incredible 3,000 citations on the Internet for the Geneva Area Pond Club. Those were enough references for us, so we joined Meetup.com and the pond club right away."
Which topics would you like to hear discussed at our next meeting? Have you submitted your RSVP yet to let us know whether or not you can attend the upcoming meeting? Click to get full details under "Upcoming Group Events" on our Welcome page.
"There must be others like us who have to cope with a long-neglected pond in their garden. A discussion on all the chores involved in restoring it to its original beauty should be beneficial to all club members. We just signed up for the next meeting."
If you already have a pond, how would you describe its size and appearance? What kind of plants and fish inhabit the pond? If you don't yet have a pond, would you like to learn how to create one? Can you offer (or do you need) any pond equipment?
"The pond is round and about six meters across. It might be a meter deep (it's hard to tell with so many weeds matted on the bottom), but the leak in the liner keeps it only about half full. We'll have to repair the leak and get a new pump and filter."
In what town near Geneva do you live? Can you host one of our informal get-togethers there? Simple snacks and beverages are all we expect, but if you want to make our get-together a bigger party, should we all bring a dish to share?
"Our new home is in Borex. No one will want to visit our garden until the pond's unpleasant aromas are eliminated. When that's done, we can accommodate a big crowd, and offer lots of snacks and drinks. We don't drink wine, but you can bring your own."
Additional information:
"A pond can - and should - be a thing of natural beauty. Ours currently detracts from the beauty of the garden. Restoring the pond should enhance the view from our living room, and make our garden work more pleasant. It'll be well worth the effort."

Meetups

  • Geneva Area Turtle and Tortoise Society

"We learn so much about turtles and tortoises at this club's meetings, and enjoy all the side-discussions about everything else as well. The club's herpetology experts and friendly members make each meeting a pleasure."

  • Geneva Area Pond Club

"We've never met a friendlier group of people. Even at the first meeting we attended, three families offered to give us fish and plants for our pond after it's built. We found we have lots in common besides our love of water gardening, so the conversations never stop. We're really glad we joined the club."
