Introduction:
"We're Brits who recently moved to the Geneva area. The garden that came with our house consists of not much more than a simple lawn. That'll require frequent mowing, and would continue to be a boring view, so we'll install a large pond this spring."
Would you like to get some goldfish or aquatic plants from Suzanne and Peter for your own pond? Do you have any fish or plants you'd like to offer to other members?
"Free goldfish? Free water plants? We just joined this club, so you don't even know us. If that's the kind of generosity we can expect from members of this club, we're really glad we joined. We'll accept your offer after our pond is built this spring."
How did you learn about our Geneva Area Pond Club? Please specify the web site or bulletin board location or person from whom you learned about us. Will you tell any friends interested in ponds about us too? Membership and meetings are all free.
"We saw the club's take-one sheets posted on bulletin boards at Migros, Carrefour, Coop and Signy, so we couldn't miss learning about it. If the club's leaders know as much about ponds as they do about promotion, we'll enjoy learning a lot from them."
Which topics would you like to hear discussed at our next meeting? Have you submitted your RSVP yet to let us know whether or not you can attend the upcoming meeting? Click to get full details under "Upcoming Group Events" on our Welcome page.
"Because we'll be building our first pond this spring, we'll need lots of basic advice on its design and construction. (We already learned a lot from the articles posted on this web site.) We hope those topics will be discussed at an upcoming meeting."
If you already have a pond, how would you describe its size and appearance? What kind of plants and fish inhabit the pond? If you don't yet have a pond, would you like to learn how to create one? Can you offer (or do you need) any pond equipment?
"We'll build our pond after getting advice from the experts at the club's meetings. We'll buy the necessary liner, pump and filter, but will accept any little accessories other club members no longer need, and will offer our surplus items as well."
In what town near Geneva do you live? Can you host one of our informal get-togethers there? Simple snacks and beverages are all we expect, but if you want to make our get-together a bigger party, should we all bring a dish to share?
"Our new home is in Chene-Bougeries. Club members wouldn't be interested in attending a meeting here until we construct our pond in spring. We'll let the club leaders know when we can schedule a meeting. We'll provide all the snacks and beverages."
Additional information:
"We never expected to find ANY pond club in Switzerland, let alone one so close to our new home. To find one created for English-speaking pond fanciers in a French-speaking part of the world makes us feel especially fortunate. Thank you, thank you."

Meetups

  • Geneva Area Turtle and Tortoise Society

"We were surprised to see turtles and tortoises galore at each club meeting, brought for a visit by their proud owners. We also saw the turtles or tortoises living in the homes and gardens of club members where the meetings are held. Seeing the different species up close is the best way to learn about them."

  • Geneva Area Pond Club

"We were complete novices at our first pond club event, but by the end of that meeting, we came away with tons of ideas for designing and constructing a pond in our garden. Most of the technical information came from Peter, but many other club members offered good advice based on their own experience. We expect to attend many more meetings to help us finalize our landscaping and 'aquascaping' plans."
