- Introduction:
- "We're native New Yorkers, but live in Nyon, not far from Geneva. We have two large ponds totalling 29,000 liters, with many blooming plants and goldfish. We love to meet other hobbyists and exchange visits to see their ponds. Call or write us today."
- Would you like to get some goldfish or aquatic plants from Suzanne and Peter for your own pond? Do you have any fish or plants you'd like to offer to other members?
- "We ARE Suzanne and Peter, so we're the ones offering our excess water plants and goldfish to other pond fanciers. Just contact us before you come to one of our casual get-togethers to let us know what you'd like, and we'll have the fish or plants ready for you to pick up. We also offer lots of advice about maintaining ponds and all related subjects, and are eager to learn more from other ponders."
- How did you learn about our Geneva Area Pond Club? Please specify the web site or bulletin board location or person from whom you learned about us. Will you tell any friends interested in ponds about us too? Membership and meetings are all free.
- "There was no Geneva Area Pond Club when we were looking for one, so we founded this club ourselves. We wanted to meet other local pond owners so we could offer them our surplus goldfish and pond plants. We wound up making many new friends as well."
- Which topics would you like to hear discussed at our next meeting? Have you submitted your RSVP yet to let us know whether or not you can attend the upcoming meeting? Click to get full details under "Upcoming Group Events" on our Welcome page.
- "We encourage all members to suggest subjects to discuss at future meetings. And submitting RSVPs will let each meeting's hosts know how many people to expect. Clubs like ours with the most active members always have the most enjoyable meetings."
- If you already have a pond, how would you describe its size and appearance? What kind of plants and fish inhabit the pond? If you don't yet have a pond, would you like to learn how to create one? Can you offer (or do you need) any pond equipment?
- "Our upper pond measures two and a half by four meters, and is one meter deep. Our lower pond is round and five meters across, but only half a meter deep. Our underwater pump sends 15,000 liters of water per hour from the lower pond to the upper pond. The water then overflows via a sparkling cascade back down into the lower pond, creating constant circulation in both ponds 24 hours a day. We have literally dozens of varieties of water plants, with blooms of many colors on display all the time. Many of the plants were acquired from professional growers, but others were gathered from nearby ponds, and still others must have blown in as seeds via the wind, or carried on the bodies of birds who come to bathe in the running water. Most of our fish are prolific goldfish (poissons rouges), including shebunkins in many colors. We also have a few golden orfes (ides d'or) and bitterlings (bouvieres). Peter has created other ponds when he lived in New York, and is happy to advise others on how to construct their own."
- In what town near Geneva do you live? Can you host one of our informal get-togethers there? Simple snacks and beverages are all we expect, but if you want to make our get-together a bigger party, should we all bring a dish to share?
- "Our Swiss home is in Nyon, at the edge of Eysin, just minutes from Geneva and the French border. We're happy to host the club's casual meetings here in our home and garden, and appreciate other members who host events in their own homes and gardens."
- Additional information:
- "Many members of the Geneva Area Pond Club are also interested in keeping turtles or tortoises, so in 2005 we founded the Geneva Area Turtle and Tortoise Society. Ask your turtle-owning friends to visit its web site at www.turtles.meetup.com/44/about."

Geneva Area Turtle and Tortoise Society

Meetup
"Every new member of the Society tells us how warmly they were welcomed at their first meeting. All our long-time members seem to be eager to meet newcomers who have a love for turtles and tortoises. The members share their experiences and anecdotes about their own pets, and appreciate the sound advice they get from the expert herpetologists who attend the monthly meetings. These events are both educational and enjoyable social events. We've made many new friends through this organization, most of whom we never would have met otherwise, and frequently meet them for social activities between Society meetings."

"All those attending the latest meeting were openly friendly, and strangers became friends in short order. Groups of various sizes formed naturally when discussing specific points about water gardening, and regrouped in other combinations as more members joined in and new subjects came up. Although our get-togethers are scheduled to last from 3 to 6 p.m., we've had times when the conversations didn't end until 11 p.m. We hope those attending tell their friends about our group, its web site, and the free membership and twice-monthly meetings, so that the club will continue to grow."

Patient to a fault.
An inspiration to organisers all over the world.
I bet my fish wish they were in your pond, not mine. -
I'm normally shy and retiring, and uncomfortable in groups of any size. But I had enough courage to join the club, and Suzanne and Peter greeted me warmly when they met me. They introduced me to each member at my first meeting, and told everyone how beneficial the natural-looking pond I made was for the visiting wildlife. The others asked me for all the details, and I found myself speaking very comfortably at every club meeting since then. Suzanne and Peter are supportive of every new member.
-
We belong to both organizations this couple founded, and have met the nicest people we know in each club. The nicest of all is Suzanne, always cheerful and outgoing, making all new club members feel welcome. And Peter's decades of experience with ponds, water plants, goldfish, turtles and tortoises have made him an expert on all these subjects. We're proud to call Suzanne and Peter our friends.
-
Suzanne and Peter's genuine enthusiasm for ponds and for turtles inspires all the members of their organizations to get more involved. They're perfect leaders.

I love Suzanne and Peter's energy and dedication. They inspire me to do better with my own group.
